A Community Without Hunger Is a Community With Heart…
The Vance County Cooperative Extension Office will be hosting a “BackPack Buddies” Food Drive starting on December 1st through the 20th. Bins will be at the following locations: 305Young Street; County Manager’s Office, 122 Young Street; YMCA on Ruin Creek Road; Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Chick-fil-et, 200 Trade Street and The Vance County Chamber of Commerce at 414 S. Garnett Street. All proceeds from this Food Drive will be donated to ACTS of Henderson to help support their BackPack Buddies program.
The BackPack Buddies Program is an important way for us to provide children from insecure homes to have nutritious food that will nourish them during the holidays when they’re not in school. These children receive most of their food from school meals and will go with little or no food at all when school is out.
Rodney Steverson, EFNEP Program Assistant (Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education Program) is asking that you join him and the Vance County Cooperative Extension Office to combat hunger in Vance County. “We hope to raise an insane amount of food”, said Rodney Steverson. “It is the season for giving and what better way to give this holiday season than by donating to those in need.”
Items needed: Peanut Butter; Jelly, Fruit Juice Boxes, Macaroni and Cheese cups, Canned Meats, Canned Soups, Vegetables and Fruit, Breakfast Bars and Oatmeal Packs to name a few.
Let’s Close 2017 Out With the Best Closing of All…With A Closed Door on Hunger!
