This page contains details about production updates and pesticide classes for area farmers* that will take place through early spring of 2022. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. Registration is required for these events, and can be done so on-line at the corresponding link, or by contacting your respective County Extension Center listed below.

CROP SPECIFIC UPDATES

  • Tobacco Production – Jan 19, 2022 – 8:30 to 11 a.m. – Franklin Plaza, 279 South Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC (2 hours of Category X continuing education credit available for pesticide applicators)
  • Soybean/Corn/Small Grain Production – Feb 7, 2022 – 3:45 to 6:30 p.m. – Vance County Regional Farmers Market (2 hours of Category X continuing education credit available for pesticide applicators). The support of the NC Soybean Producers Association and AgCarolina Farm Credit is gratefully recognized.

TOBACCO GAP CERTIFICATION

Tobacco growers are reminded that since 2019(?), GAP certification is handled directly by GAP Connections, separate from the crop production updates provided by N.C. Cooperative Extension. Last year, farmers had the option of completing the requirements on-line or through the mail. Details will be posted at the GAP Connections website.

PESTICIDE APPLICATOR TRAINING

Category V credits: Feb 15 @ 10 a.m. OR Feb 22 @ 6:30 p.m., choose from ANY of the following locations:

  • Vance County Regional Farmers Market
  • Granville County Extension Center
  • Warren County Extension Center
  • Wake County Extension Center
  • Person County Extension Center

Register for Feb 15, 10 a.m. session

Register for Feb 22, 6:30 p.m. session

Category V credits: Feb 24, 10 a.m. to noon at the Franklin County Extension Center, call to register.

Category V credits: Mar 10, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Franklin County Extension Center, call to register.

Category X credits (2 hours): Mar 15 @ 9 a.m. at multiple location. Here is the registration form. Choose from ANY of the following locations:

  • Vance County Regional Farmers Market
  • Granville Expo Center
  • Warren County Extension Center
  • Wake County Extension Center
  • Person County Library, 319 S. Main St., Roxboro

Fumigant Applicator Recertification – This class is required once every three years for those who apply certain fumigants. Choose from one of the following dates/locations:

  • Feb 24 @ 9 a.m., Franklin County Extension Center. Registration REQUIRED by calling 919-496-3344.
  • Mar 1 @ 10 a.m., Vance County Regional Farmers Market. Registration REQUIRED by calling 252-438-8188.
  • Mar 1 @ 10 a.m., Granville County Extension Center. Registration REQUIRED by calling 919-603-1350.

Auxin Herbicide Applicator Training: Mar 1 @ 8:30 a.m. This class is required annually for those who apply auxin herbicides on resistant soybeans and cotton. Register on-line. Choose from ANY of the following locations:

  • Franklin County Extension Center
  • Vance County Regional Farmers Market
  • Granville County Extension Center
  • Warren County Extension Center
  • Wake County Extension Center
  • Person County Extension Center

Paraquat Training – This on-line training is required once every three years for those who apply paraquat products

Applicators who wish to check their certification status may do so at this NCDA&CS page or by contacting their respective County Extension Center.

RESPIRATOR FIT TESTING

Required annually for pesticide applicators who use products that require the use of a respirator. Farmers may register for one of the listed events, or visit this page for a list of providers.

  • Jan 31 at the Granville County Extension Center, registration REQUIRED by calling 919-603-1350.
