Small Ruminant Production
Small Ruminant production (Goats and Sheep) is increasing across the country. Landowners are raising goats to clean brush areas on their property. Farmers are getting a profitable return through marketing of goats and sheep. These farmers are selling goats and sheep for meat, and dairy goats are producing value added products of milk and cheese. The sheep are also producing profitable wool. According to Wayne Rowland, Agricultural and Natural Resources Technician with North Carolina Cooperative Extension Vance County Center a Small Ruminant Production workshop has been scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension(Vance County Center) located at 305 Young street in Henderson.If you are a small ruminant producer or interested in becoming a small ruminant producer, this meeting will help you raise healthy profitable goats and sheep. The topics that you will learn about during this meeting are breeds of goats and sheep, increasing herd health, marketing of goats and sheep and their value-added products.
